"At 14, I got my first job and saved up to buy my first HiFi stereo system. I remember Fleetwood Mac and Yes were two bands that I listed to for the first time and there was no going back. At 18, I got my first "audiophile" system and could never understand why my friends weren't as interested as I was to listen to music in this way.
Since then, I got into collecting gold-disc MoFi CDs and vinyl records, and I fell in love! There is nothing like coming home after a hard day at work, dropping the needle on a sweet piece of wax, pour a glass of Cabernet or Whisky, and feel all of my troubles go away.
However, I must admit there have been some bumps in the road. The least enjoyable part of my journey surprisingly hasn't been the amount of money I have spent on my collection and gear. No regrets there! Instead, I have been burned countless times on record purchases gone bad. It is astounding how a VG+ record on eBay or Discogs can be a G+ at best when it shows up at my door!
That is why we're here; I decided that I should start an organization to solve these problems. There needs to be someone to serve as a 3rd party to grade records. Additionally, I wanted to do everything that we could to improve the grade of a collectible record. It is important to preserve our collections so that is why we offer hi-res backups, proper cleaning and sleeving.
I'm excited about how we serve the vinyl community, keeping the record sales and collecting 'playing fields' fair, one record at a time. That way, we can all have a drink, spin some tunes, and feel ALL of our troubles melt away." - Andrew Hoffman, CEO Audiophile Archive & Grading Services
Collectors fear getting ripped off when buying records. AAGS has developed a way to grade records without seller bias so that you can buy with confidence and enjoy your collection even more.
